Electricity Generation from Renewable Energy

In 2023, the total electricity produced from renewable energy sources amounted to 3 829 GWh. The largest share came from wind power plants, which generated 65.9% of the total. Solar power plants contributed 16.5%, and hydro power plants produced 11.6%. The market share of solar power plants in renewable electricity production increased significantly from 2019 to 2023, mainly due to the growing number of prosumers in Lithuania. Electricity generated from biofuel and biogas power plants accounted for 5.9% of the total.
Installed
Capacity of Renewable Energy Source Power Plants

In 2023, the installed capacity of power plants producing and supplying energy from renewable resources reached 1 720 MW. Wind power plants had an installed capacity of 1 267 MW, solar power plants 175 MW, biofuel power plants 149 MW, and hydro power plants 129 MW. Wind power plants held the largest market share of the total installed capacity at 73.7%.
Statistics of Prosumers

In recent years, the number of prosumers and remote prosumers in Lithuania has increased rapidly and continues to grow. By September 2024, the total number of prosumers reached 117 591 units. Most of these are household prosumers, accounting for 86.5% (101 744 units). However, the number of non-household prosumers is also gradually increasing, reaching 15 847 units (13.8% of the total) in September 2024. The installed capacity of prosumers was 1 434.7 MW, with a permissible generating capacity of 1 344.7 MW.
