The sector of renewable energy resources 2012

Market players

In 2012, 294 physical and legal entities were producing energy from renewable energy resources and supplying it to the networks.
In 2012, the number of the power plants using the renewable energy resources reached 365, among these 46 percent were the solar power plants, 26 – the hydro power plants, 21 – the wind power plants. The biogas and biofuel power plants covered an insignificant share in the market structure – 4.1 and 1.91 percent, respectively.

Quantities

The quantity of electricity produced in 2012 by using the renewable energy resources equaled 1 156 GWh: the biggest quantity of electricity was produced in the wind power plants – 47 percent, and in the hydro power plants – 36 percent. The quantity of electricity produced in the biofuel power plants constituted 14 percent, in the biogas power plants – 3 percent, in the solar power plants – 0.20 percent.
In 2012, the installed capacity of the power plants producing and supplying to the networks the energy produced from the renewable energy resources reached 472 MW: the installed capacity of the solar power plants was 7.47 MW, the wind power plants – 281.34 MW, the hydro power plants – 127.62 MW, the biofuel power plants – 40.70 MW, of the biogas power plants – 15.24 MW. The biggest share in the market structure of the total installed capacity was held by the wind power plants – 59.56 percent, the smallest – by the solar power plants (1.58 percent).

Support

The production of energy from the renewable energy resources is supported through the Public Service Obligations (PSO). In 2012, this amount equaled LTL 108.4 million.

Investments

In 2012, the investments in the sector of the renewable energy resources reached LTL 531.7 million, from this amount 89.8 percent were the investments in the electricity production facilities (LTL 477.64 million), 0.5 percent – the investments made to connect the producers to the transmission and distribution networks (LTL 2.85 million), 9.6 percent – other investments related to electricity production (LTL 51.21 million).
