In 2013, 1611 physical and legal entities were producing energy from renewable energy resources and supplying it to the networks. In 2013, the number of the power plants using the renewable energy resources reached 2108, among these 89.1 percent were the solar power plants, 4,6 – the hydro power plants, 5.1 – the wind power plants. The biogas and biofuel power plants covered an insignificant share in the market structure – 0.8 and 0.4 percent, respectively.
The quantity of electricity produced in 2013 by using the renewable energy resources equaled 1423.7 GWh: the biggest quantity of electricity was produced in the wind power plants – 42.1 percent, and in the hydro power plants – 36.3 percent. The quantity of electricity produced in the biofuel power plants constituted 15.8 percent, in the biogas power plants – 2.7 percent, in the solar power plants – 3.1 percent.
In 2013, the installed capacity of the power plants producing and supplying to the networks the energy produced from the renewable energy resources reached 569,4 MW: the installed capacity of the solar power plants was 68.4 MW, the wind power plants – 281.7 MW, the hydro power plants – 127.5 MW, the biofuel power plants – 76.9 MW, of the biogas power plants – 14.9 MW. The biggest share in the market structure of the total installed capacity was held by the wind power plants – 49.47 percent, the smallest – by the biogas power plants (2.62 percent).

The production of energy from the renewable energy resources is supported through the Public Service Obligations (PSO). In 2014, this amount equaled EUR 64.79 million.
In 2014, the investments in the sector of the renewable energy resources reached EUR 7.8 million, from this amount 82 percent were the investments in the electricity production facilities, 1.4 percent – the investments made to connect the producers to the transmission and distribution networks, 16.7 percent – other investments related to electricity production.
