NCC approved all Baltic transmission system operators proposal for cross-zonal capacity allocation

On 31 May 2018 NCC approved all Baltic transmission system operators proposal for cross-zonal capacity allocation and other necessary arrangements concerning more than one nominated electricity market operator in one bidding zone (MNA Proposal) in accordance with Article 45 and Article 57 of Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/1222 of 24 July 2015 establishing a Guideline on Capacity Allocation and Congestion Management (CACM Regulation).

The arrangements proposed in the MNA Proposal serve the objective of optimising the allocation of cross-zonal capacity to ensure optimal use of the transmission infrastructure. The MNA Proposal creates a level playing field for nominated electricity market operators and respects the need for a fair and orderly market and fair and orderly price formation.

It should be noted, that on 15 December 2015 Nord Pool AS was designated as the nominated electricity market operator in Lithuania. Also on July 31, 2017 NCC concluded that EPEX Spot SE fulfils the criteria arising from CACM Regulation and can offer day-ahead and intraday trading in Lithuanian bidding zone.
