On
21st of January, 2021 Mr Renatas Pocius starts his duties as the
Chair of National Energy Regulatory Council (NERC). Mr. Pocius was appointed as
a Chair of the Lithuanian national energy regulatory authority for a 5-year
term starting from 21st of January, 2021. Prior to his appointment as
a Chair of NERC, Mr. Pocius served as a Vice-Chair, starting his career at the
institution almost 19 years ago.
The
following priorities are named by the Chair of NERC for the future term:
implementation of the Green Deal and the Clean Energy Package, further
liberalization of the energy market, empowerment of consumers to actively
engage in the energy market, implementation of a supportive innovation
framework accelerating the innovative solutions in the energy sector and in
NERC activities as well.
Also,
in the near future, it is planned that NERC will be entrusted with a new
function - regulation of the waste management sector, where the most important
goal is to introduce such pricing model that would encourage the population to
recycle and choose sustainable consumption.
“The
employee-expert is the main asset of the institution. Today, NERC has more than
two hundred specialists in economic, technical, legal and other fields. My goal
is not only to be a leader, but also to actively contribute to the
implementation of the tasks, so I am always ready to assist and advise, ” said
the new Chair of NERC.
